| Indian Railways to purchase nearly 1000 Electric Engines | 04.08.2008 |

Global companies like Bombardier, Siemens, Alstom, Mitsubushi, Toyota, CSR Zhuzhou Electric are all keenly bidding to supply high power engines to the Indian Railways (IR). The successful bidder is expected to supply the engines as also maintain them for a period of 20 years. Besides the succesful bidder is to build a locomotive factory at Madhapura, Bihar at an estimated cost of Rs 10000 million: IR estimates that it needs nearly 400 locomotives per year over the next 5 years, while the internal production is less than 200 locomotives per year.
